One of the other tools that I spent playing around with is MOG. MOG is advertised as a free music site, but like most music sites, there is a catch. They want you to either upgrade to a paid subscription for 9.99 a month or share music with friends to earn more free music. Neither one seems like a bad option and the quality and amount of music available was good. I need to continue with MOG or another music site because it seems way better than ITunes which is more expensive and it doesn't seem to have all of the music that I search for.
From the list of productivity tools I chose to explore MapMyRun because I am interested in new routes for bicycling and possibly running. To be honest, however, running just isn't that fun to me, but bicycling is because it is way less stressful on my joints and you can travel much further distances in a shorter amount of time. I like this site because it can not only show you new routes to travel, but it will also log your workouts so you can see your progression in fitness. I also like that it will connect you with local groups so you can meet up with people to workout together if you wish. If you are not interested in working out with people that you do not know, it will connect you to your Facebook friends that are also members on the site. Overall, it's a nice tool for fitness, organization, and networking.
I think many of the technological tools can be used in my PE class. My PWP can be adapted to post important information, reminders, and blog opportunities for my students to participate in. Blogs could be a place where students can ask health and fitness questions and get responses from other students to collaborate and formulate answers and solutions. Twitter could be used to post announcements and rewards and a Facebook page devoted to my PE class could also foster collaboration and information exchange. Lastly, podcasts could be shared with students to give health and fitness tips as well as information for students about the class.
I think podcasting is a great tool for preview or review for PE courses. If students miss a demonstration, for example, I could create a podcast for students to view and practice before their next class. In addition, if I am going to teach a very difficult skill or I need students to bring certain materials, I could create a podcast for my students to watch for preparation for the next class. At my high school we have a web site that allows teachers to post videos or podcasts and students are experienced in using the web site. In addition to the functionality of the podcast, students enjoy using technology to learn. They are more familiar with it and they are more interested to use it. If we can peak the interest, we can help them to maximize their potential.
